John Denver is a popular singer and songwriter who has been able to touch many through his music. Many of these are based on Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in the love of Colorado and later moved to Aspen. Denver's state anthems inspired many to visit Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame, said: "I don't believe there any other performer who embodies Colorado like John Denver." Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever inductee. Denver has become the image of Colorado to many around the world. When I travel, I always meet someone from the other part of the globe, one from New Zealand and you say "I'm originally from Colorado and the very first thing that comes out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads is the only Denver Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked within small Folk Music groups. The song was written in collaboration with Bill Danoff. Danoff used Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the tune, however Denver discovered that it was destined to turn into a hit once the song was first heard by him. After performing the song at Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver released the song a couple of days later.
